Corporate responsibility

Living our purpose

We believe businesses—including ourselves—need to be part of solving some of our society’s biggest challenges. In an increasingly complex world, we help intricate economic and financial systems operate and evolve so they can benefit society.

Our purpose is to build trust in society and solve important problems. And our people live that purpose every day.

We have a responsibility to respond to major shifts shaping the world by integrating our firmwide environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitments into everything we do.

But we know that to turn our commitments into action and to help others build trust, we need to be trusted ourselves. So we’re committed to holding a mirror up to ourselves and reporting on how well our everyday behaviours and actions match the commitments we make, our progress on key ESG issues expected by our stakeholders, and to share our gaps and blindspots on where we can do better.

Our focus

As a global network, we’ve committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2030. Our science-based target includes a reduction of absolute emissions by 50% against a 2019 baseline, which is aligned to a 1.5°C global temperature rise scenario. To get there, we’ll transform our business model to decarbonize our value chain, increase transparency and support the development of robust ESG reporting frameworks and standards. We’ll also help drive the transition to a net-zero economy through our work with clients and within our supply chain by choosing to work with vendors that aspire to have the same level of climate ambition as we do.

Our approachHow we hold ourselves accountable

To create an inclusive economy, we need to equip people with the skills they need for the jobs they do today—as well as the jobs they’ll do tomorrow. We believe everyone should be able to live, learn, work and participate in the digital world. Through our New world. New skills. initiative, we’re helping to close the digital divide by collaborating with other businesses, governments and local communities to upskill 2m people and prepare them for the future of work. We’re augmenting our philanthropic and community investments by:

  • matching our people with NPO boards and empowering them to upskill others
  • empowering our volunteers to share knowledge
  • undertaking large-scale pro-bono projects with scalable impact
Here’s how we’re helping to close the digital divide

Our contribution

We can only solve important problems if we’re inclusive of our diverse talent. We’re committed to fostering a culture of belonging that allows our people to be their authentic selves at work and feel equitably supported in their careers. As part of this commitment, we are continuing to challenge ourselves to recruit, retain and promote a workforce that reflects the diversity of our clients and society. Our commitment

Delivering high-quality work is at the heart of everything we do at PwC Canada. It’s something that all our stakeholders expect of us. Acting with integrity and maintaining independence are also key to fulfilling our purpose—even in difficult situations. No client, fee or opportunity is worth compromising our values.

Our Trust Roadmap underscores why and how our everyday actions and behaviours underpin our commitment to good governance. It calls on us to engage stakeholders in an open, direct and prompt way through courageous conversations in the moment. Our roadmap also provides our ESG disclosures and shows how decisions are made and actions are taken. And it acknowledges that society’s expectations on business practices change, which means our services must also continue to evolve.
